South West NRM Ltd's Board of Directors is made up of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Traditional Owner representative, Local Government representative, Industry representative, Conservation representative and a Community (Landcare) representative.


Independent Chair

 

Mark O’Brien has been a resident of the Murweh Shire for 20 years having moved to Charleville to pursue business opportunities and to provide a small, rural community lifestyle for his family.  A qualified accountant, Mark has worked in many areas of commerce including large international corporations as well as small rural businesses.

Mark has been involved in a number of business ventures in the region and owns and operates a distribution business which covers the whole of the south west.

Mark was elected as Mayor of the Murweh Shire Council in March 2004 with a conviction about the benefits of a strong team of councillors.

“The Murweh Shire is a diverse shire with a number of communities and the council is committed to an inclusive approach which supports the diversity within the shire.  This can be achieved through creative and responsible financial management as well as responsiveness to community aspirations”.

Markis a staunch supporter of natural resource management particularly in the southwest. Mark has been successful in having the southwest region recognised as ‘the home of natural sciences’; and is heavily involved with the Save the Bilby foundation, the environmental park, Murweh Shire, Regional Planning and the Grants Commission. Mark has developed an extensive partnership network within the areas of natural resource management, media, and politics; and has had continual involvement with South West NRM Ltd on a personal and mayoral level over the past six years. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (Personnel Management); Degree in Accounting; is the Mayor of Murweh Shire; a local business owner and Ambassador for Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.

Independent Vice Chairperson

Paul is the  elected Independent Vice Chairperson on the Board of South West NRM Ltd.

Paul has had over 30 years experience serving on various boards and committees and possesses strong leadership skills.

Paul is an active member of the Charleville community in addition to the Warrego Urban Landcare Group.

Conservation Sector Director

Karen is involved in natural resource management and conservation issues across much of central and southwest Queensland. Karen has been a member of the southwest  community for 19 years; she is passionate about the southwest region and has   Karen has networking alliances with The Wilderness Society; Pew Environment Group; Cooper’s Creek Protection Group; Australian Floodplains Association; Qld Rural Women’s Network; SW Local Government Association and RAPAD. Karen has partnered South West NRM Ltd in compiling and submitting applications for funding to conduct natural resource management projects throughout the southwest region. Karen holds a Bachelor Of Education; Master of Education; Graduate Diploma of Financial Markets (ASI); Cert IV in Business (Governance) (BSI); Cert IV in Training and Assessment (SQIT); is a local business owner, rural landowner and a Justice of the Peace.

Indigenous Sector Director

Grace is South West NRM Ltd’s Indigenous Sector Director, and is an integral part of the Far South West Aboriginal NRM Group.

 

Grace is the treasurer of the Kooma Traditional Owners Association in Cunnamulla and is a recognised elder of both the Toowoomba and South West Queensland communities.

 

Grace is a lifetime member of both the Downs Aboriginal Housing Company and Goondir Health Service.
